ACTING TIP #9
"Project Your Talent."
This acting tip is a magical idea. This tip puts you
over the top and has less to do with
the acting craft as we normally consider "the work", but has more
to do with creating that space in our heads and other peoples minds that puts
us in the zone of winners, and puts you in that magical space where things
go right for us. Where we are doing the right thing, in the right place, and
at the right time.
What is projecting your talent? In a short phrase
- Knowing you have what it takes.
Yes, knowing you have what it takes to do the job before you are even given
the recognition for it and before you even have to prove it to the world.
Now, in any other field except performing, it would
be simply a crazy idea. You would not perform an operation as a surgeon without
being a reputable doctor. You would not be standing up in a court of law representing
people if you were not a real bonified lawyer.
However, when you walk on that stage for an audition
without loads of experience and a
ton of credits behind you, I am saying you have to project that you can cut
it as an actor, as a talent, no matter what is thrown your way. That is "projecting
your talent."
They say that Bob Hope the great comedian developed
his walk on stage before he had made it with his comedy act. He walked on
with his famous long legged strut, arms swinging robustly and had the audience
in the palm of his hand. Jack Benny had a walk
he developed too. They projected their talent, they won command of the audience
and
the show before the audience saw their act, or heard a word.
Reaching down deep inside of you and knowing you have
the talent... that you have what
it takes, you just need the time and stage to show it to the world. That is
projecting your talent.
Much of being a winning performer is mental. Teach yourself
how you can "Project Your Talent" so that it enters a room about
two feet ahead of you. It feels good to do and
works. How to do it exactly? In your secret-self you must learn what works
for you. But then...
Part "B" of this tip is very important --
as you work on "projecting your talent" developing
it and getting it... keep it to yourself. Don't talk about it.
You will find this acting tip is very helpful in many
other areas of your life too.
So... Keep this thought in mind -- Project your talent.
Okay, that is it, for acting tip #9. Go study, and take care of business.
